SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Venture investment in Web 2.0 companies was strong throughout 2006, according a report by VentureOne and Ernst & Young.

The report estimated that $844 million was invested in 167 deals throughout the year, representing nearly twice as much money as 2005 and twice as many deals.

The median size of financing a Web 2.0 deal was $5 million, up from $3.3 million in 2005.  The report  did not comment on media reports that interest in Web 2.0 companies is beginning to platea, citing the falloff in traffic visiting popular Web 2.0 media outlets such as Techcrunch and others.
